BIO

QiQi is a Chinese-Australian composer and multi-instrumentalist whose music bridges cultural heritage with contemporary creativity. A guzheng specialist and classically trained double bassist, QiQi blends traditional Chinese instrumentation with jazz harmony, cinematic composition, and cross-genre experimentation.

Known for emotionally rich and genre-defying performances, QiQi has appeared at major venues including the NGV, MCEC, Crown Palladium, and more. Guzheng recordings by QiQi have also been featured in a permanent interactive museum installation.

QiQi’s work spans solo concerts, collaborative ensembles, and large-scale, multisensory productions that immerse audiences in storytelling through sound and visuals. A passionate improviser and collaborator, QiQi has worked with Māori, Ukrainian, Somali, Indian, and Thai artists — demonstrating a strong commitment to cultural storytelling and artistic exchange.

As former Music Lead for the Hong De Lion and Dragon Association, QiQi arranged and directed Australia’s only guzheng-integrated dragon dance. Orchestral experience includes performances with the Australian Youth Orchestra and the Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra.

Current projects include Elysian Blues II (Melbourne Fringe 2025) and Echoes of the Earth, a climate-focused performance where the audience shapes the ending. With support from Creative Victoria, QiQi is composing a debut album, set for release in 2025/2026.
